i've had this issue before where my pc would shutdown if the GPU did anything exciting for a period of time , changing power supplies fixed it.

If you are using the latest graphics card but have an older and dated PSU, this could cause power fluctuation. As a user stated on the website Tom's Hardware, "Shutting off during games is 70% of the time a faulty power supply". : https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/could-bad-ram-cause-a-computer-to-shut-down-in-the-middle-of-a-game.2531537/ If there was an insufficient ram I suppose you will get a BSOD but often windows will give you a warning "Your Computer Is Low On Memory" and you will experience a lot of performance issues.

The GPU should be providing the computers Video RAM. The OS can probably allocate extra VRAM to make up for any slack of deficit, but the GPU ought to have enough to perform its rated tasks. I'm almost surprised that the computer is running for so long before it shuts down. I'd expect it to hit a wall as soon as the wattage draw is greater than the supply can provide.
