perf is a tool for network performance measurement and tuning. It is a cross-platform tool that can produce standardized performance measurements for any network. Iperf has client and server functionality, and can create data streams to measure the throughput between the two ends in one or both directions.

A packet capture using Wireshark can be used to analyze slow file transfers. You can use iperf to measure network performance but I don't know how it can be used to solve/identify a problem with slow file transfers. I am not an expert iperf user but if CompTIA is testing you on this non objective program it seems like a trap question.

I haven't ran into iPerf in the exam objectives nor Mike Meyer's book.

Selected Answer: B
To get detailed measurement data for slow file transfers, an engineer would MOST likely use a network performance measurement tool such as iPerf. iPerf is an open-source tool used for measuring network performance, specifically bandwidth and throughput, by generating TCP and UDP data streams between two endpoints. By analyzing the results of an iPerf test, an engineer can identify where network bottlenecks are occurring and how to improve network performance.

This is ackward, I am studying for the N10-008 and this question is on my dump. The answer there is NetFlow Analyzer.

This is a stupid question. I would use A if I am looking for retransmits, B for overall throughput testing, C to see if anything is hogging BW. They don't give enough info to answer.
