Joe, a user, calls the help desk from a coffee shop while on a business trip to report the WiFi hotspot on his phone is extremely slow. The technician runs a speed test from a laptop connected to the hotspot and gets 200Kbps. Ann, Joe's coworker with whom he is travelling, also has a hotspot on her phone, and the speed test result on that hotspot is 15Mbps. The technician checks the hotspot settings on Joe's phone and sees the following:

Which of the following is the MOST likely cause of the problem?

  • A. Joe should be using WEP security on his hotspot for faster throughput
  • B. Someone else is using Joe's hotspot due to weak password
  • C. Joe's hotspot gave him an invalid IP address

A weak password is the most correct answer. Note that Ann is using her own hotspot instead of Joe's. Nearby parties interested enough could guess an easy password like that. Using WEP is incorrect; WEP is less secure than WPA2. Invalid IP address is incorrect; Joe would be unable to browse at all. Poor signal area is incorrect, but a good answer; Ann would also be experiencing similar issues.

Not necessarily with the poor signal they could be on different networks and Ann's is stronger

True if using personal accounts but if they are using company devices or accounts then they will use standardised vendors. This isn't mentioned either way in the question so is not the most likely problem to consider.

this is possible b or d what weird choices of answer. even a normal person can't guess the password as a hotspot unless your there at a coffee shop 24/7 someone could try.

This question should have shown how many devices is connected in the hotspot to clear the weirdness in the choices.

Very confusing. Not on a technical level, but choice of words. I think those that fail are not failing because of there technical knowledge. They are failing because the words of confusion compTIA purposely deploy! It states from a "coffee shop" and words like "hotspot". The readers automatic assumption is they are using the access point in a coffee shop!. READ carefully! they are using their phone as a personnel hotspot!. Then it all makes sense. I'm still getting used CompTIA's tricky use of words to throw you off!

I'd argue that 15Megebits is still faster than 200 Kilobits.
