A carpenter on a project team reports there is insufficient time to accomplish tasks on schedule. Which of the following is the FIRST step the project manager should take?
The risk register is a list of risks that you can record in a simple spreadsheet that includes an identification number, risk name, risk description, risk owner, and response plan (or where the response plan can be located). This should be the first step, and then proceed according to the plan specified in the risk register.
FIRST was the key word for me.. "The Risk Register or Risk Log is essential to the management of risk. As risks are identified they should be logged on the register and actions should be taken to respond to the risk."
From ChatGPT:
The FIRST step the project manager should take when a carpenter on the project team reports insufficient time to accomplish tasks on schedule is to review the task start and finish dates.
Reviewing the task start and finish dates will allow the project manager to see if the carpenter's concerns are valid and if there are any other critical path activities that could be delaying the project. The project manager can also evaluate if the current schedule is achievable or if it needs to be adjusted.
Once the project manager has reviewed the task start and finish dates, they can then analyze the assigned hours, assess the risk register's new items, and explore the possibility of obtaining additional resources if necessary.
However, the first step should be to review the task start and finish dates to gain a clear understanding of the situation and identify any potential issues with the project schedule. This will help the project manager determine the appropriate course of action and prevent further delays or complications.
B. Review the task start and finish dates. The project manager should first understand the cause of the insufficient time and if the task schedule is realistic. By reviewing the task start and finish dates, the project manager can assess if there are any issues with the schedule and identify potential solutions to address the insufficient time.
Wording on this question is not clear. Not finishing a task on time can be considered a realized risk, but since the task is already on the schedule, shouldn't the PM review the planned start and end dates first and go from there? B is certainly a valid answer.
Issues and risks are different and should be treated differently. This seems like something that would be placed in an issue log and require action items. Functional managers deal with resources. risk register is irrelevant. Reaching out to the scheduler would seem more efficient than analyzing assigned hours. But Project Managers do prepare Gannt Charts with the WBS. containing work package start and end dates. So, B. Reviewing the task start and finish dates seems like the best choice.
I thought it was B as well. I do not understand why the risk register should be reviewed FIRST. The question did not say anything about risks, especially about adding NEW items to the risk register. Why would we not review what the schedule is supposed to be FIRST?
I think it is correct the given response (A), since it says FIRST thing to do. Then , at a latter time, PM will check up for more resources to be added.
