IP Helper is a feature used on routers or Layer 3 switches that allows the forwarding of DHCP broadcast messages from clients on one network to a DHCP server located on a different network. Since DHCP typically uses broadcast communication, a router will not forward this broadcast by default. By configuring an IP Helper Address, the router knows to forward the DHCP requests to the specified DHCP server.
