A. Datagrams are used in connectionless communication protocols like TCP and UDP at the transport layer. Datagrams are fundamental units of transmission, representing segments of data for error detection and retransmission.
In order to make it clearer:
- Connectionless Communication (UDP - User Datagram Protocol)
Transmission Format: UDP transmits data in discrete units called datagrams.
- Connection-Oriented Communication (TCP - Transmission Control Protocol)
Transmission Format: TCP transmits data as a continuous stream of bytes, but it segments this stream into smaller units called segments for transmission.
I tend to disagree with this the answer as: A. Datagram
Layer 1 = Bits = Physical
Layer 2 = Frames = Data
Layer 3 = Packet = Network
Layer 4 = Segment = Transport
Layer 5 = Data Exchange = Session
Can somebody either Confirm this or Correct me please?
Segment: This term is typically used for connection-oriented communication, as seen with TCP.
Datagram: This term is used for connectionless communication, such as with UDP.
