The answer given was D which I feel is incorrect. The question states that the part will arrive 3 days late. If there was zero float, then yes it would be delayed 3 days. However there is 1 day of float time so 3-1=2. The answer should be C - 2 days.

Selected Answer: D
This will be D, my friend. Because the statement says there is one day float for the two tasks. Meaning the one-day float was used for Task 3 which is still okay with having the one-day float that the project can be delayed, but Task 4 is affected by that delay as well there is no more float to be used. So, to sum up, task 3 was delayed two days and task 4 was delayed one day which is a total of 3 days of delayed project schedule

free float is a number that shows how long a particular task can be delayed before it impacts the next sequential task. Therefore, to calculate the free float of a task, simply take the difference between the next task’s planned start date, and the current task’s end date.

"Float occurs only in activities that are not on the critical path" via Project+ Official Student Guide pg 147. Since the next task is dependent on the previous being finished, it's on the Critical Path, which means the float number is irrelevant in this situation.

"Float is the amount of time you can delay the earliest start of an activity without delaying the end of the project" CompTIA Project+ Study Guide 2nd Edition. Based on theis definition, the float day is superfluous information. The project will still be delayed 3 days.

How on earth do you come to this conclusion? The 1 day float is by no means superfluous. You have to subtract it out the 3 day wait in order to get the actual delay.

The Critical Path is only the LONGEST path of tasks. There can be dependencies of tasks in the shorter paths, no?

Based on the wording, 1 day of float for the TWO tasks; doesn't say both tasks have 1 day. This implies there's collectively 1 day of float. C - 2 days is correct based on the funky wording.

Im thinking 1 day delay as well since both tasks have 1 day of float. (3 days delay - 2 float days=1 day delay) like what Rz10 said

Thinking as both tasks has 1 day float, 3 days back order for task 3 with 1 one day float makes 2 days delay for this task, however, task four also have 1 day float and is affected with the delay. Therefor, my thought is that 1 day delay is the correct answer.
