EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) utilizes both successor and feasible successor concepts for routing:
Successor: The primary path to a destination with the best metric (lowest cost). This route gets installed in the routing table and is used for forwarding traffic.
Feasible Successor: A backup path considered a viable alternative if the primary route fails. It meets specific criteria (feasible distance) but doesn't have the absolute best metric. This route is stored in the topology table and can be immediately used for traffic forwarding if the successor goes down.
