Exam 1Y0-403 topic 1 question 6 discussion

Actual exam question from Citrix's 1Y0-403
Question #: 6
Topic #: 1
[All 1Y0-403 Questions]

Scenario: A Citrix Architect designed an active-passive Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment, where the passive data center serves as the disaster recovery (DR) data center for all users.
Twelve items have been configured:
✑ Citrix ADC Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) to provide single URL direction to the active data center.
✑ GSLB has health monitors configured for the load balanced servers.
✑ Citrix Gateways are on both data centers.
✑ Citrix ADC load balancing occurs for StoreFront and Delivery Controller XML services.
✑ A single Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Site exists.
✑ Four Delivery Controllers are members of the Site.
✑ Two Delivery Controllers are members of the Primary Zone in the active data center.
✑ Two Delivery Controllers are members of the Satellite Zone in the passive data center.
✑ SQL is deployed in the active data center.
✑ Local Host Cache is enabled.
✑ Two StoreFront servers are deployed in each data center aggregating resources from the Delivery Controllers in the respective data center.
✑ Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) machines are deployed in both data centers and configured to register with Delivery Controllers in their zone.
What would happen if the Delivery Controllers in the primary data center were turned off?

  • A. VDA machines from the primary data center would register with the Delivery Controllers in the passive data center.
  • B. StoreFront in the primary data center would still be able to launch sessions.
  • C. GSLB will start redirecting connections to the secondary data center.
  • D. GSLB will NOT identify that the Delivery Controllers are down and sessions CANNOT launch.

Must be C. GSLB will start redirecting connections to the secondary data center, as GSLB is aware the controllers are down. - Bonepin is correct that the StorFronts at the primary will not direct users to the secondary delivery controllers, so B is wrong. - A is wrong because VDAs from a primary zone never register to a secondary zone - D is wrong because delivery controllers are being monitored by GSLB (as GSLB is monitoring all load balanced servers in the scenario)

I also think, the answer is C. When both the delivery controllers are down, then the STA components in that delivery controllers are down and that will mark the Access Gateway Virtual Server in ADC (Netscaler) as down. GSLB monitors this VServer. When that is down, it will start sending connection to the other datacentre.

Selected Answer: B
If STA are under GSLB under single VIP, which is bound to a domain under GSLB, lets say primarysta.gslb.domain.com. This VIP has 4 STA which are all under primary zone. 2 of them are in primary datacenter and 2 are in DR datacenter. Two DDCs in Primary datacenter go down. We still have 2 DDCs that are in DR datacenter, that are under glsb domain name primarysta.gslb.domain.com, so the gateway in primary datacenter will just use those as STA. Once you get to storefronts, assuming that primarysta.gslb.domain.com is also used there as delivery controllers, the session will launch normally, hence correct answer is B

I think it would be D. as per this line statment. "Two StoreFront servers are deployed in each data center aggregating resources from the Delivery Controllers in the respective data center."

It should be C only. Since GSLB is configured

Is B correct? the question states "Two StoreFront servers are deployed in each data center aggregating resources from the Delivery Controllers in the respective data center." So I think the storefront servers in the primary are only configured to "use" the Dellivery Controllers in the primary DC? So perhaps A?

No, SF has nothing to do with the register of the VDA's. So there is only ONE Site so the VDA will register on the next availible DDC even is there in a other Datacenter. So C should be correct
