Exam 1Y0-403 topic 1 question 25 discussion

Actual exam question from Citrix's 1Y0-403
Question #: 25
Topic #: 1
[All 1Y0-403 Questions]

Scenario: A Citrix Architect is designing a new Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environment. The customer previously installed all applications locally on managed laptops and desktops, but is willing to evaluate other application delivery methods as part of the new deployment. The environment will be standardized on Windows 10 for the Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) machines.
As part of an application analysis performed earlier in the project, the information in the exhibit was collected regarding 1 of the required applications.
Click the Exhibit button to view the information.

The customer's security policies mandate that all development software must run within the corporate data center, but should appear to the user as if it is running locally on the virtual machine (VM).
How should the architect recommend deploying the application?

  • A. Use Desktop OS machines to deliver VM hosted applications.
  • B. Install it directly on the endpoint devices, and include it in a virtual desktop session using the Local App Access feature.
  • C. Install it in an Application Layer using Citrix App Layering, then present it to users as an Elastic Layer during a virtual a virtual desktop session.
  • D. Stream it to a VDA machine using Microsoft App-V, and access it through a virtual desktop session.
  • E. Push it to users with a Workspace Environment Management (WEM) action option.

I think D is correct A is wrong. according to Customer's security policies, all development software must run within the corporate data center. But the software should appear like it is running locally on the vm. Elastic Layer does not support visual studio(include services).

Selected Answer: A
Your users are internal, external contractors, third-party collaborators, and other provisional team members. Your users do not require offline access to hosted applications.

Read the first topic "Use Case" - you'll find almost the same text as the question: https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/xenapp-and-xendesktop/7-15-ltsr/technical-overview/delivery-methods/vm-hosted-apps.html

Answer A: VM Hosted applications have the same seamless application experience as hosting shared applications on Server OS machines. https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/xenapp-and-xendesktop/7-15-ltsr/technical-overview/delivery-methods/vm-hosted-apps.html

I am going with D. A can not be, since they want the application to appear local to the VDA. A is to publish the application only instead of providing a full desktop.

Elastic Layering Limitations: You cannot elastically layer the following: Microsoft Office, Office 365, Visual Studio. Applications with drivers that use the driver store. Example: a printer driver. Applications that modify the network stack or hardware. Example: a VPN client. Applications that have boot level drivers. Example: a virus scanner.

technically, C is also correct. However, Elastic layer kind of overkill and from end users perspective, achieves the same result as Desktop OS -VM hosted apps. Better answer is A.

On second though, I think D is a better solution. for VM hosted apps, it does not appear to users as seamless desktop. With D, users see full desktop.

Elastic layer does NOT work for apps that include drivers and services. App-V is sort of in the same boat so both options are out. That makes A the likely answer.

I think is App layer like elastic layer, because they want "should appear to the useras if it is running locally on the VM" and this app has a few windows services, maybe because needs to integrate with other apps or services running in the VM.
