An engineer needs to connect Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect (FI) to an external storage array. Due to budget limitations, the engineer must connect a Cisco UCS FI directly to an FC storage port. Which two actions must be taken to complete this connection? (Choose two.)

  • A. Create a storage connection policy.
  • B. Configure the fabric interconnect in end-host mode.
  • C. Create the required VSAN in the SAN cloud.
  • D. Set FC zoning to disabled when creating the VSAN.

A VSAN (Virtual Storage Area Network) is required to segregate and manage traffic to the storage array within the Fibre Channel fabric. The VSAN provides a unique fabric services identifier to the Fibre Channel protocol, allowing for traffic isolation and management. You need to create and assign a VSAN to the FC uplink ports on the Fabric Interconnect that will be used to connect to the storage array. E. Configure the fabric interconnect in FC switch mode. By default, Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects operate in end-host mode (also known as NPV mode - N_Port Virtualization), which means they do not perform any Fibre Channel zoning or domain ID allocation. However, to connect directly to an FC storage port without an intervening FC switch, the Fabric Interconnect must be set to FC switch mode. This allows the Fabric Interconnect to provide Fibre Channel switching services, including zoning and domain ID assignment, which are necessary for direct storage connectivity.

Configure Direct Attached Storage The general process to configure DAS in UCS is: Configure FI in FC switch mode. Create required virtual SAN (VSAN). Set the port role in UCS. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/ucs-infrastructure-ucs-manager-software/116082-config-ucs-das-00.html

Creating a Storage VSAN You can create a named VSAN with IDs from 1 to 4093. Procedure Step 1 In the Navigation pane, click the SAN tab. Step 2 On the SAN tab, expand SAN > Storage Cloud. Step 3 In the Work pane, click the VSANs tab. Step 4 On the icon bar to the right of the table, click +.

i thin tha asnwer is C and E Named VSANs A named VSAN creates a connection to a specific external SAN. The VSAN isolates traffic to that external SAN, including broadcast traffic. The traffic on one named VSAN knows that the traffic on another named VSAN exists, but cannot read or access that traffic.

Switch mode is the traditional Fibre Channel switching mode. Switch mode allows the fabric interconnect to connect directly to a storage device. Enabling Fibre Channel switch mode is useful in Pod models where there is no SAN (for example, a single Cisco UCS domain that is connected directly to storage), or where a SAN exists (with an upstream MDS). CE are correct

B. Configure the fabric interconnect in end-host mode. C. Create the required VSAN in the SAN cloud. To connect a Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect (FI) directly to an FC storage port, the following steps need to be taken: Configure the FI in end-host mode. Create a VSAN in the SAN cloud that will be used to connect the FI to the external storage array. Create a storage connection policy that specifies the VSAN ID and the type of storage connectivity.
