An engineer is implementing a Cisco MPLS TE tunnel to improve the streaming experience for the clients of a video-on-demand server. Which action must the engineer perform to configure extended discovery to support the MPLS LDP session between the headend and tailend routers?

  • A. Configure a targeted neighbor session.
  • B. Configure an access list on the interface to permit TCP and UDP traffic.
  • C. Configure a Cisco MPLS TE tunnel on both ends of the session.

AToM and some Traffic Engineering scenarios are examples of these applications that require a targeted LDP session between non directly connected routers. The command mpls ldp neighbor [vrf vpn-name] ip-addr targeted [ldp | tdp] can be used to manually configure targeted LDP sessions between peers. Answer A

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios-xml/ios/mp_ldp/configuration/15-2s/mp-ldp-overview.html " Directly Connected MPLS LDP Sessions If an LSR is one hop from its neighbor, it is directly connected to its neighbor. The LSR sends out LDP link Hello messages as User Datagram Protocol (UDP) packets to all the routers on the subnet (multicast). A neighboring LSR may respond to the link Hello message, allowing the two routers to establish an LDP session. This is called basic discovery. ... Nondirectly Connected MPLS LDP Sessions If the LSR is more than one hop from its neighbor, it is nondirectly connected to its neighbor. For these nondirectly connected neighbors, the LSR sends out a targeted Hello message as a UDP packet, but as a unicast message specifically addressed to that LSR. The nondirectly connected LSR responds to the Hello message and the two routers begin to establish an LDP session. This is called extended discovery. "

A is the best match for me. Anyone agree or disagree? If the LSR is more than one hop from its neighbor, it is nondirectly connected to its neighbor. An MPLS LDP targeted session is a label distribution session between routers that are not directly connected. When you create an MPLS traffic engineering tunnel interface, you need to establish a label distribution session between the tunnel headend and the tailend routers. You establish nondirectly connected MPLS LDP sessions by enabling the transmission of targeted Hello messages. You can use the ****mpls ldp neighbor targeted****command to set up a targeted session when other means of establishing targeted sessions do not apply, such as configuring mpls ip on a traffic engineering (TE)....
