From SECFND 210-250: "There are several methods of classifying exploits; however, the most common two categories are remote and local exploits. A remote exploit can be launched over a network and carries out the attack without any prior access to the vulnerable device or software. A local exploit requires the attacker or threat actor to have prior access to the vulnerable system."
