Selected Answer: D
If the question A woud be "provides a single broadcast domain for all connected devices in one specific VLAN" than it would be A. Otherwise the main function of a switch is to forward frames based on the MAC-Address

Selected Answer: D
Layer 2 switches forward frames based on MAC addresses at the Data Link layer. Incorrect options: A: Switches provide separate collision domains, but only one broadcast domain unless VLANs are used. B: Tracking TCP connections is a Layer 4 function. C: Switches create separate collision domains for each port.

I would go with D - for me it is more accurate. Option A - when you use VLANs, you have more broadcast domains

D. makes forwarding decisions based on MAC addresses Explanation: A Layer 2 switch operates at the data link layer (Layer 2) of the OSI model. One of its primary functions is to make forwarding decisions based on the MAC (Media Access Control) addresses of devices. When a switch receives a frame, it examines the destination MAC address in the frame and forwards the frame only to the port where the destination device is located. This process is known as switching, and it helps in reducing collisions and improving the efficiency of network communication. The other options are not accurate descriptions of Layer 2 switch characteristics: A. Layer 2 switches typically create separate broadcast domains for each connected port, which can help in minimizing unnecessary broadcast traffic. B. Tracking the number of active TCP connections is typically a function associated with Layer 4 devices such as routers and firewalls, not Layer 2 switches. C. Layer 2 switches create separate collision domains for each connected device, helping to reduce the likelihood of collisions compared to shared network segments.

Layer 2 switch creates multiple collision domain but provides one broadcast domain. Makes forwarding decision using MAC address table not mac address.
