What is the difference between deep packet inspection and stateful inspection?

  • A. Stateful inspection is more secure due to its complex signatures, and deep packet inspection requires less human intervention.
  • B. Deep packet inspection is more secure due to its complex signatures, and stateful inspection requires less human intervention.
  • C. Deep packet inspection gives insights up to Layer 7, and stateful inspection gives insights only up to Layer 4.

C is correct. Neither DPI nor Stateful FW *verify* anything.

I agree, the inspections are not verifying the data. They are only inspecting to gain insights into the data contained.

Selected Answer: C
C and D might both be correct in the exam, but have different number of points. keyword here would be "Insight" which means the capacity to gain an accurate and deep intuitive understanding of a person or thing. I'd go for C on this one.

Selected Answer: D
D. Stateful inspection verifies data at the transport layer, and deep packet inspection verifies data at the application layer. Stateful inspection primarily operates at the transport layer (Layer 4) of the network protocol stack. It examines the header information of packets and tracks the state of network connections to enforce security policies. Deep packet inspection, on the other hand, operates at the application layer (Layer 7) of the network protocol stack. It involves analyzing the content of packets beyond the header information, allowing for a more granular inspection of the network traffic. Deep packet inspection can identify and analyze specific protocols, applications, and even content within the packets. Therefore, the correct answer is D. Stateful inspection verifies data at the transport layer, and deep packet inspection verifies data at the application layer. I apologize for any confusion caused by my previous responses.
