Unless you were searching eBay, you would be hard pressed to find any 802.11a network devices for sale anywhere. When Cisco releases an updated exam, they should really update the standards on which they ask questions. Why am I even renewing this turd every 3 years?

semi-modern AP/Wireless Router supports 802.11n 5ghz and most recent devices uses 802.11ac/ax/be, no point back to the 802.11a

I hear you. This is my sixth time sitting this exam (five recertifications all up over the last 20-odd years). 802.11a is a 5 GHz radio network, so it is incompatible with 802.11b/g. It has nothing to do with costs. Whilst the 2.4 GHz range has three non-overlapping channels (1,6, and 11) - if you exclude Japan, the 5.0 GHz range has, I seem to remember, 23. For this reason, option 'd' is correct.
