This is the correct answer: C. Continue to conduct the functional assessment until the data coincides with the original hypothesis.
D. Alter the hypothesis regarding the maintaining variable of the behavior based on the results of the functional assessment is incorrect because you conduct a functional assessment precisely to get an hypothesis.
Besides, this same question appears in other mock test and the correct answer is the C.
The correct answer is D. Answer C is not only wrong but is opposite to the scientific philosophy underpinning of ABA. We do not set out to prove or disprove a hypothesis, instead ABA has always advocated for inductive reasoning. Therefore, the data speaks for itself and the hypothesis should be formed dependent on the behavioral data. A functional analysis is not meant to ascertain a hunch. In fact it would be detrimental and unethical to continue to conduct an FA simply in the hope that it agrees with your previous hypothesis. If you continue to conduct FA sessions simply to that end, you will likely end up teaching a new function.
This is simple and basic foundations.
I am not sure C is correct. D is the closest in my opinion. You conduct an FA to TEST a hypothesis developed from observation in NT environment and Indirect Observations. If an FA does not confirm a Hypothesis formed from indirect and Direct Observation then it is not clear which is incorrect, so D is also not the most clear answer.
