Any vessels constructed after December 1987 must comply with the requirements of UCS-66 of ASME Section VIII, Division 1. This includes requirements for impact testing of ferritic steel materials at temperatures below their Minimum Design Metal Temperature (MDMT).
UCS-66 provides a table of MDMTs for various ferritic steel materials, as well as curves that can be used to determine the required impact test temperature based on the material's MDMT and the thickness of the vessel. In general, impact testing is required for ferritic steel materials that will be used at temperatures below their MDMT, unless the material is specifically exempted by the Code.
