The compagny (admins) access and setup a maintenance window as said in your document so: C. Use administrative access to the server, and apply the operating system patches during the regular maintenance window that is defined for the DB instance.

Answer D is the correct answer Amazon RDS is a managed service, so AWS takes care of the underlying infrastructure, including the operating system and patches. Customers can configure the maintenance window for when AWS can perform patches on the RDS instance.

The answer is D. Amazon RDS DB is a PaaS solution so the customer cannot obtain admin access to the server, eliminating answers A & C. You'll have to get AWS to patch the server BUT since the company "needs regular patching of OS to the server," the answer would be D - establish a regular maintenance window... B. Open a support case and request that AWS patch the DB instance operating system. Customers do not have direct access to the underlying operating system of Amazon RDS instances. AWS manages the operating system and takes care of patching it as part of the RDS service. Customers can request AWS to patch the DB instance operating system, but they do not perform this task themselves

D. Establish a regular maintenance window that tells AWS when to patch the DB instance operating system "With Amazon RDS, you can choose when to apply maintenance operations. You can decide when Amazon RDS applies updates by using the RDS console, AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI), or RDS API." https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/UserGuide/USER_UpgradeDBInstance.Maintenance.html#:~:text=With%20Amazon%20RDS%2C%20you%20can%20choose%20when%20to%20apply%20maintenance%20operations.%20You%20can%20decide%20when%20Amazon%20RDS%20applies%20updates%20by%20using%20the%20RDS%20console%2C%20AWS%20Command%20Line%20Interface%20(AWS%20CLI)%2C%20or%20RDS%20API.

The Amazon RDS maintenance window Every DB instance has a weekly maintenance window during which any system changes are applied. Think of the maintenance window as an opportunity to control when modifications and software patching occur. If a maintenance event is scheduled for a given week, it's initiated during the 30-minute maintenance window you identify. Most maintenance events also complete during the 30-minute maintenance window, although larger maintenance events may take more than 30 minutes to complete. The 30-minute maintenance window is selected at random from an 8-hour block of time per region. If you don't specify a maintenance window when you create the DB instance, RDS assigns a 30-minute maintenance window on a randomly selected day of the week.

Selected Answer: B
According to the AWS shared responsibility model, AWS is responsible for patching and maintaining the underlying infrastructure, including the operating system of the server where the Amazon RDS DB instance runs. Therefore, the responsibility for patching the operating system lies with AWS (option B). The company does not have direct administrative access to the server hosting the DB instance and should not attempt to patch the operating system themselves. Instead, they can rely on AWS to perform the necessary patching as part of their managed service for Amazon RDS.

Answer is D: Establish a regular maintenance window that tells AWS when to patch the DB instance operating system. The Amazon RDS maintenance window Every DB instance has a weekly maintenance window during which any system changes are applied. Think of the maintenance window as an opportunity to control when modifications and software patching occur. Some maintenance items require that Amazon RDS take your DB instance offline for a short time. Maintenance items that require a resource to be offline include required operating system or database patching. Required patching is automatically scheduled only for patches that are related to security and instance reliability. Such patching occurs infrequently (typically once every few months) and seldom requires more than a fraction of your maintenance window.
