Topic #: 1
[All AWS-SysOps Questions]

A company has Sales department and Marketing department. The company uses one AWS account. There is a need to determine what charges are incurred on the AWS platform by each department. There is also a need to receive notifications when a specified cost level is approached or exceeded.
Which two actions must a SysOps Administrator take to achieve both requirements with the LEAST amount of administrative overhead? (Choose two.)

  • A. Use AWS Trusted Advisor to obtain a report containing the checked items in the Cost Optimization pillar.
  • B. Download the detailed billing report, upload it to a database, and match the line items with a list of known resources by department.
  • C. Create a script by using the AWS CLI to automatically apply tags to existing resources to each department. Schedule the script to run weekly.
  • D. Use AWS Organizations to create a department Organizational Unit and allow only authorized personnel in each department to create resources.

A. I dont think so , it is well suitable. Cost optmization works on 5 main Categories for entire infrastructure..Not Department based. B.This is not least admin overhead. C. The question requirement is "when cost level is approached or exceeded". so must be real time. But the last sentence says Schedule the script to run weekly. So reamining options are D& E which matches the requirement.

budget in option E will cover the requirement "when cost level is approached or exceeded" C is a must as question mandates you figure out what each department cost you .

Selected Answer: CE
C. Create a script by using the AWS CLI to automatically apply tags to existing resources to each department. Schedule the script to run weekly. Tagging resources can help you organize them according to your business needs. By tagging resources at the time of creation, you can eliminate the need to run scripts to tag resources after creation. You can also use cost allocation tags to organize your AWS bill to reflect your own cost structure. E. Create a Budget from the Billing and Cost Management console. Specify the budget type a Cost, assign tags for each department, define notifications, and specify any other options as required. AWS Budgets gives you the ability to set custom cost and usage budgets that alert you when your costs or usage exceed (or are forecasted to exceed) your budgeted amount. You can also design your budget to alert you when your usage is lower than your forecasted preferences.

C & E. D is not correct because company use one AWS account. Also, D mention about the access control not related to cost control.

I would go with AE. A A. Use AWS Trusted Advisor to obtain a report containing the checked items in the Cost Optimization pillar. - Fostering Accountability pillar of Trusted adviser helps you set KPI to resource usage. Ok. B. Download the detailed billing report, upload it to a database, and match the line items with a list of known resources by department. Too much overhead. Wrong. C. Create a script by using the AWS CLI to automatically apply tags to existing resources to each department. Schedule the script to run weekly. The script would have to be dynamic to apply tags and so too much overhead and all it is doing is applying tags. Wrong. D. Use AWS Organizations to create a department Organizational Unit and allow only authorized personnel in each department to create resources. The question states they use just one account for both departments so you cant use organization. Wrong. E. Create a Budget from the Billing and Cost Management console. Specify the budget type a Cost, assign tags for each department, define notifications, and specify any other options as required. Best answer. Ok.

C , E C is a must as question mandates you figure out what each department cost you . D is wrong as it's used to limit future expenses by allowing authorized people only to create resources , but question scenario just ask you to figure out what each department cost you , not how to limit that .

D. Use AWS Organizations to create a department Organizational Unit and allow only authorized personnel in each department to create resources. E. Create a Budget from the Billing and Cost Management console. Specify the budget type a Cost, assign tags for each department, define notifications, and specify any other options as required. Seem correct. As Cost can then be checked department wise.

D & E since in E it is mentioned the tags will be added to each depertpment so C will be redundant then and D is fine to base the organization per department not per account.

Ans : C& E D is not correct, since AWS organization will be used only if you have multiple AWS accounts, whereas the question clearly mentioned its only one AWS account.

Query on C: How the script knows whether the resources are created by Sales or Markt Team? For me.. D and E is right. Based on Organization, we can setup the tagging.
