Should be B. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/requesting-ebs-volume-modifications.html#elastic-volumes-limitations Modifying volume size has no practical effect until you also extend the volume's file system to make use of the new storage capacity. For more information, see Extending a Linux File System After Resizing a Volume.

Selected Answer: B
When the storage capacity of an EBS volume is increased, the additional space is not automatically reflected in the file system. The file system needs to be extended to utilize the newly allocated space. By extending the file system, the EC2 instance will be able to utilize the increased storage capacity of the EBS volume. No need to restart the instance or detach/reattach the volume. Note: Before performing any modifications on the file system, it is always recommended to take a backup or snapshot of the volume for data protection.

What I dont understand is how the answer shows as "A" when the 100% vote as well as the link provided clearly shows "B" is the correct answer. I have noticed this error on many of the questions. I think this needs to be corrected otherwise it will mislead many readers. (my 2 cents)

B is correct Modify an EBS Volume and Extend the Volume's File System aws.amazon.com › ebs-volume-increase-os Oct 17, 2019 · Modifying an EBS volume requires two steps. First, increase the size of the EBS volume using the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) console or the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI). Then, extend the volume’s file system to use the new storage capacity. For instructions, see: Extending a Windows file system after resizing a volume.

After you increase the size of an EBS volume, you must use file system–specific commands to extend the file system to the larger size. You can resize the file system as soon as the volume enters the optimizing state. Before extending a file system that contains valuable data, it is best practice to create a snapshot of the volume, in case you need to roll back your changes.
