CORRECT: "Scheduled Reserved Instances" is the correct answer. INCORRECT: "Standard Reserved Instances" is incorrect as the workload only runs for 4 hours a day this would be more expensive. INCORRECT: "On-Demand Instances" is incorrect as this would be much more expensive as there is no discount applied. INCORRECT: "Spot Instances" is incorrect as the workload cannot be interrupted once started. With Spot instances workloads can be terminated if the Spot price changes or capacity is required.

Answer D. is correct as of today Jan 2021. I see this Announcement on AWS: "Important We do not have any capacity for purchasing Scheduled Reserved Instances or any plans to make it available in the future. To reserve capacity, use On-Demand Capacity Reservations instead. For discounted rates, use Savings Plans." https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/ec2-scheduled-instances.html Keywords 'reduce cost', 'minimum of 1 year', '4 hours every night' leads to Answer D. 'Scheduled Reserved Instances'.

To reduce the cost of the system while running compute-intensive jobs for a fixed duration every night, the most cost-effective option would be to use Spot instances. A. Spot instances: Spot instances allow you to bid on unused EC2 instances in the Spot market, where prices are typically lower compared to On-Demand instances. Since the compute jobs are not time-critical and can be interrupted if the Spot price exceeds your bid, using Spot instances can significantly reduce the cost of the system. Spot instances are a good fit for workloads that are flexible with respect to timing and can tolerate interruptions.

AWS documents clearly states that "You cannot purchase Scheduled Reserved Instances at this time. AWS does not have any capacity available for Scheduled Reserved Instances or any plans to make it available in the future. To reserve capacity, use On-Demand Capacity Reservations instead", so the correct answer is On-Demand

D is correct, " Scheduled Reserved Instances - reserve capacity that is scheduled to recur daily, weekly, or monthly, with a specified start time and duration, for a one-year term. After you complete your purchase, the instances are available to launch during the time windows that you specified."

Answer is C https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/instance-purchasing-options.html Schedule reserved instances is obsolete so D cannot be the answer. Can't be spot instances as the workload needs to be uninterrupted so A isn't the answer. This leaves B and C as options. C is cheaper than B and will meet the 1 year availability criteria so the answer is C - Standard Reserved instances
