Which combination of actions should the solutions architect take to accomplish this? (Choose two.)

  • A. Detach a volume on an EC2 instance and copy it to Amazon S3.
  • B. Launch a new EC2 instance from an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) in a new Region.
  • C. Launch a new EC2 instance in a new Region and copy a volume from Amazon S3 to the new instance.
  • D. Copy an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) of an EC2 instance and specify a different Region for the destination.

I believe "In the event of a disaster" and "architect needs to ensure that the resources CAN also be deployed" are henting towards B and D B. Launch a new EC2 instance from an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) in a new Region. D. Copy an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) of an EC2 instance and specify a different Region for the destination.

my intuitive sense is that in option D just mean a plain AMI without the data (so not a snapshot backup) and it looks like it is not recovering any data at all, so i go for A and C but AI says S3 is not an ordinary option for DR... if that's true then i would next vote for B/D

Actually the question highlights the combination of action. So I'd go with "D & E". D: Copying the AMI of EC2 to a different Region E: Then copy the EBS volume from S3 & launch the EC2 instance in the new region. For EC2 AMI option "D" is better than "B"

When you create an AMI of an instance that you will in this question, the AMI will automatically take a snapchot of the EBS attached.

Ans: D and B in order Although E seems to be correct, EBS snapshot copy is automatically done when u create AMI from EC2 instance "By default, when you create an AMI from an instance, snapshots are taken of each EBS volume attached to the instance. AMIs can launch with multiple EBS volumes attached, allowing you to replicate both an instance's configuration and the state of all the EBS volumes that are attached to that instance." https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/create-ami-ebs-backed/

B and D seems correct. Question is super vague. What does it even mean to copy volume to s3? can't they simply say take a snapshot!

Correct answers are B & D AMIs are regional and need to copied to the destination region. Once copied, the new instances to serve traffic can be launched in the new region. Options A, C & E are wrong as EBS volumes are restricted to AZs. The proper way to restore the volume in different regions is to take snapshots and copy them to other region. Snapshots can be used to launch new instances or create AMIs. EBS volumes are stored in S3, but are not accessible directly. Also, the question does not mention the data restoration.
