An organization has configured Auto Scaling with ELB. There is a memory issue in the application which is causing CPU utilization to go above 90%. The higher
CPU usage triggers an event for Auto Scaling as per the scaling policy. If the user wants to find the root cause inside the application without triggering a scaling activity, how can he achieve this?

  • A. Stop the scaling process until research is completed
  • B. It is not possible to find the root cause from that instance without triggering scaling
  • C. Delete Auto Scaling until research is completed
  • D. Suspend the scaling process until research is completed

Suggested Answer: D 🗳️
Auto Scaling allows the user to suspend and then resume one or more of the Auto Scaling processes in the Auto Scaling group. This is very useful when the user wants to investigate a configuration problem or some other issue, such as a memory leak with the web application and then make changes to the application, without triggering the Auto Scaling process.

Selected Answer: D
When facing a memory issue causing high CPU utilization in an application, the user may want to investigate the root cause without triggering any scaling activity. In this scenario, suspending the scaling process allows the user to temporarily halt any scaling actions triggered by Auto Scaling policies. By suspending the scaling process, the Auto Scaling group will no longer automatically launch or terminate instances based on scaling policies. This gives the user the opportunity to investigate the issue within the application without interference from scaling activities. Once the user has completed the research and resolved the root cause of the memory issue, they can resume the scaling process to allow Auto Scaling to function as intended.
