Allocation strategies in EC2 Auto Scaling groups help you to provision your target capacity without the need to manually look for the Spot Instance pools with spare capacity. We recommend using the price-capacity-optimized strategy because this strategy automatically provisions instances from the most-available Spot Instance pools that also have the lowest possible price. Because your Spot Instance capacity is sourced from pools with optimal capacity, this decreases the possibility that your Spot Instances are interrupted. Consider using EC2 Autoscaling, which makes diversification across multiple instance types and availability zones easier. We recommend starting with instance types having lower frequency of being interrupted and adding more instance types as you improve your application’s flexibility and fault tolerance. I'd like to clarify my answer. After looking at this again, I'd have to conclude that both "C" and "D" could be correct, and I'm leaning towards "C" just because the ONLY criteria is to use pools with the most availability (even if they cost more). Capacity-Optimized: "Strictly selects the deepest pools, but sometimes it can pick high-priced pools even when there are low-priced pools available with marginally less capacity" https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/compute/introducing-price-capacity-optimized-allocation-strategy-for-ec2-spot-instances/
