According to ICD-10-CM coding guidelines, the code for diabetic polyneuropathy is E11.42 (for type 2 diabetes mellitus with diabetic polyneuropathy) or E10.42 (for type 1 diabetes mellitus with diabetic polyneuropathy).

In the guidelines it specifies that "If the type of diabetes mellitus is not documented in the medical record the default is E.-, Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
