An organization is replacing a tape backup system with a storage gateway. there is currently no connectivity to AWS. Initial testing is needed. What connection option should the organization use to get up and running at minimal cost?
A.
Use an internet connection.
B.
Set up an AWS VPN connection.
C.
Provision an AWS Direct Connection private virtual interface.
D.
Provision a Direct Connect public virtual interface.
I'd say A. If minimal cost is the most important point, aws ingress internet traffic is free. Direct connect traffic is cheaper for outgoing traffic, but you'll pay a fix fee for the connection. An no VPN is needed as the backup software take care of the encryption, etc.
Apparently, you can connect to your storage gateway over Internet with an Elastic IP
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/storagegateway/latest/userguide/getting-ip-address.html
"Procedure 1: To connect to your gateway using the public IP address.."
So A is the cheapest I would say
B- I don't think Internet connection is enough. "AWS Storage Gateway is a hybrid cloud storage service" and you will need a storage interface connectivity like iSCSI.
https://aws.amazon.com/storagegateway/faqs/#Networking
Answer is A, you don't need any specific network configurations (other than internet) to implement storage gateway in its simplest form. It will communicate with AWS via secure channels in any case.
A is the correct answer. According to A Cloud Guru, Storage Gateway can be connected to AWS S3 via one of the following:
-Direct Connect
-Internet
-Amazon VPC
Simply use the Internet is probably the best option for initial testing as it has minimum cost.
Ajani, the question didn't say that we didn't have an AWS account, just that we have no connectivity setup (VPN, DCX, etc). In that case how would you do anything with AWS for minimal cost... just connect over the internet.
A is out, how will you create a storage gateway without an AWS account. How do you access the gateway over the internet? with which api ?.
Ans is B. set up a VPN to test , then plan(yes...plaaaannnn, cross connect to your dc, ...isp.) for the cost of a Dx. why go through that just for INITIAL TESTING?...
it seems plausible, the question infers a Tape gateway, and if we also assume internet automatically implies https. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/storagegateway/latest/userguide/create-gateway-vtl.html#GettingStartedBeginActivateGateway-vtl.
